A court has warned widows in Eldoret to look out for one Vincent Kiriago Mogambi, who exploits widows by deceiving them into signing away their wealth and inheritance.

"Don't touch Vincent Kiriago Mogambi with a ten-foot pole. Avoid him at all costs," cautioned Judge Boaz Olao, after Elizabeth Afandi, one of his victims, sued Mogambi accusing him of registering her properties under his name.

“What widows need most at their time of distress is a helper who can shower them with love and offer support not deceitful and thieving men whose main goal is to strike at vulnerable widows,” said Olao.

The widow claimed to have lived with him after her husband died but the man had taken advantage of her.

Mogambi, however, failed to show up in court to defend the petition.

"If Vincent Kiriago Mogambi had filed a defense to this suit and attended the trial, this court would have had an opportunity to caution him on what the scriptures say about men who take advantage of widows to steal from them," added Judge Olao who then proceed to quote several Bible verses.

“They take advantage of widows and rob them of their homes, and then make a show of saying long prayers. Their punishment will be all the worse,” Olao said quoting, Mark 12:40.

He also quoted Exodus 22:22-24, "You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you do afflict them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry, and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword and you wives shall become widows and your children fatherless."

In another related case, a widow to former Ugenya MP Archbishop Steven Ondiekwas, Concelia Aoko Ondiek, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years without the option of a fine for stealing Ksh1.5 million public funds.
