Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i admitted to missing his time at the Ministry of Education while speaking at Njiiris High School in Murang’a County on Thursday, 11 February.
Matiang’i confessed that he had enjoyed interacting with young people, adding that he loved them because they were the future of the country.
"I sincerely sometimes miss my days as CS Education because I used to spend time in schools, hanging out with you, and enjoying the promise of our country and the future of our people," said Matiang'i addressing the students.
"I thank God to be in this country at this point in time because we have, a leadership, a president who spends 65 percent of his time on young people. He is always talking about schools and for good reasons," he added.
According to the CS, no amount of money would be enough to pay teachers for the work they did in nurturing young people.
"No one will pay teachers for the work that you do, you assist us to raise a generation that will take this country very far," he stated.
Matiang'i, other than donating Ksh 500, 000 to treat the 1,904 students to a special supper, also announced that he intended on adopting and financing four needy children for their education.
Separately, while speaking in Murang'a County during his tour, Matiang'i said the 'hustler nation' narrative was a threat to national security.
“Those are the kind of things that are giving us serious problems in matters of cohesion and general security in the way we conduct our politics,” he asserted.
He further stated that the president's main objective with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was to allocate resources to the masses of which Kenyans stood to benefit.
“We have no time for sideshows since our main focus remains developing the nation to join the modern economies. We are following the stewardship of our President who has made it crystal clear that he will not entertain 2022 politics in government before the official time is declared,” Matiang’i said.
Matiang’i was on tour inspecting development projects in Gatanga and Kigumo Sub Counties in Murang'a County accompanied by Roads and Infrastructure CS James Macharia and, Information Technology CS Joe Mucheru.
