Nairobi matatus will soon be barred from entering the Central Business District (CBD) after the Nairobi Metropolitan Services announced that it had completed the construction of Green park Terminus near Old Railways Club.

On Tuesday, March 16, Engineer Michael Ochieng said that they had completed 95 percent of the construction and that they would apply the finishing touches by Sunday March 21.

"We are at 90 to 95 percent complete. We will complete the 5 percent this week. We intend to do our best and ensure that it is tested before the week ends.

"The final touches include road markings and painting on buildings. We hope to open it by the end of the month. That is why we are doing two shifts, day and night,"  Ochieng said.

He added that the terminus was expanded to allow boda bodas and taxis which will provide last-mile services. They will be used to ferry commuters from the station to the CBD and back.

He added that the petrol station, supermarket and garage located at the terminus were near completion and that the hospital was already in service.

"All transport modes will be taken care of. We also set up a non motorised transport system where you can cycle or walk. The garage will also service and repair vehicles," Ochieng stated.

Jimal Ibrahim, the Chairman of Association of Matatu Owners added that they are ready to relocate from the CBD once NMS issues a notice. Ibrahim lauded the changes effected and said that the terminus will accommodate over 300 vehicles with more space reserved for expansion once the station becomes overloaded.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied with  NMS Director General, Mohamed Badi inspected the site on Sunday, March 7. Uhuru expressed satisfaction with the NMS project saying that it would change the transport sector in the city.

The terminus will serve matatus plying Ngong Road and Lang'ata Road. Other termini include Fig Tree Terminus at Ngara, Bunyala and Workshop Road, Muthurwa Terminus and a proposed terminus at Globe Cinema Roundabout.
