The identity of the man who snatched a firearm from a traffic police officer and killed two people in Kisumu two weeks ago has been revealed.

The family identified his body after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) published an appeal on social media seeking to find out his identity.

According to the family, Ambrose Odero scored a B (minus) in the 216 KCSE examinations emerging as the 7th best candidate at Sengere Secondary School.

The family further told that after completing his secondary school education, he received a letter of admission to join Maseno University.

The family revealed that they could not afford to raise the required school fees to secure his admission at the university so, Odero left Siaya for Kisumu to look for a job.

The remains of the 25-year-old have been lying at a Kisumu morgue since the incident where a mob attacked him and beat him to death.

DCI reports indicate that the culprit has never applied for a National Identity Card.

After completing high school, his aunt secured him a job at a mattress company.

The job required him to have an identity card and investigations reveal that he scanned someone else’s ID card and used it to secure the job.

"But his employment was short-lived because, towards the end of 2019, every employee was asked to produce his or her original identity cards, in an exercise that was spearheaded by the National Employment Authority," read the report.

Investigations by DCI further revealed that he absconded duty due to failure of producing his personal documents as required by the authority leading to dismissal from the company.

On Friday March 5 around 8.20am, Odero who is believed to be the man behind the Kisumu Shooting Spree wore a balaclava on his head with only his eyes visible and gloves on both hands. Two people died while several other bystanders were injured in the shooting incidence.
