Three robbers were on the night of Sunday, April 11, shot dead after they were caught on CCTV cameras robbing supermarkets.
Speaking to the press, Police in Eldoret Town disclosed that the three were gunned down after a fierce shootout between the gang of five and enforcement officers.
The officers further noted that, in the incident which occurred at around 7.30 pm, the thugs had come out to rob Transmatt supermarket located within the CBD.
"We have killed three thugs who have been terrorising residents here in Eldoret Town. Tonight, they had come prepared to rob a supermarket because they are used to do that in the evening.
"We got them and recovered the firearm they were using. It had 23 bullets," stated officer.
In the presser, the police also noted that the gang had been on its radar for a few days after stealing from a number of supermarkets almost on a daily basis.
"We had been looking for them because even yesterday they robbed a supermarket at Munyaka. The previous day, they took Ksh10,000 from another supermarket. Two escaped during the shooting that killed three of them," added the officer.
A police report had indicated that during the hot pursuit, police had ordered the gang to stop but instead, they opened fire.
In some instances, the thugs left a death trail during their escapades.
The bodies of the three were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary as investigations into the matter intensify.
Insecurity across the country has been on the rise lately in what experts have observed as the negative effects of a rapidly deteriorating economy as a result of Covid-19 effects.
It is estimated that over 5 million people, a majority of whom are breadwinners, lost their source of livelihoods due to the pandemic.
