Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Thursday, April 15, claimed that he missed out on becoming a Principal Secretary despite topping the interviews.

Taking to social media, he talked about the ongoing interviews for the Chief Justice position and detailed the predicament that comes with the hot seat when in front of an interview panel.

"I have been interviewed thrice for top positions  - twice as PS and once as CEO. I was top in all of them, but such interviews are not a walk in the park.

"Some interviewing panelists can be unkind, even malicious, and can throw you off balance," Mutua stated.

Kenyans online responded to the KFCB boss wondering how he did not clinch the position despite emerging among the top candidates.

"Being interviewed doesn't mean appointment even if you emerge the top. An appointment is the prerogative of the appointing authority and can pick from any of the top three," Mutua responded.

The President is the appointing authority when it comes to appointments of Principal Secretaries.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is currently grilling candidates in order to identify the most suitable person to become Kenya's Chief Justice.

As a result, drama has come out of the interviews such as fierce exchanges between the JSC panel and the candidates as well as candidates being overcome with emotion.

Mutua is known for his strict and tough stance on matters morality and regulation of content within the public domain.

From banning international hits such as Wolf of Wall Street and Fifty Shades of Grey due to explicit content, his stamp of authority has also stretched to the local music industry.

Songs such as Takataka by Alvindo were completely banned while Wamlambez by Sailors Gang was restricted to clubs.

Recently, Mutua had an altercation with popular comedian Eric Omondi over his show dubbed Wife Material for its explicit nature. This led to the arrest of the comedian on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

After holding several talks at KFCB offices, Eric, flanked by comedian counterparts Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill and Felix Odiwour alias Jalang'o, managed to settle the matter out of court and agreed to remove the content from his social media.
