Covid-19 Positivity Rate Drops to 5.2%

Kenya has recorded 345 new Covid-19 cases, from a sample size of 6,686 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 5.2 per cent. 

Of the cases, 339 are Kenyans while 6 are foreigners. 195 are males and 150 are females. The youngest is a two-year-old baby while the oldest is 94 years old.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 4, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that the total number of confirmed cases stands at 160,904 and the cumulative tests so far are 1,688,106.

140 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, 82 from home-based care, and 58 from various health facilities.

Total recoveries now stand at 109,217 out of which 79,525 are from home-based care and isolation, while 29,692 are from various health facilities.

Unfortunately, 24 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, 15 having occurred on diverse dates within the last one month and 8 are late death reports from facility record audits.

This now pushes cumulative fatalities to 2,805.

The positivity rate dropped from Monday's which stood at 8.3%.

A total of 1,230 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,654 patients are on Home Based

Isolation and Care.

154 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 101 on supplemental oxygen. 27 patients are on observation.

Another 117 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 109 of them in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units

(HDU).

Vaccination

In the statement, Kagwe also noted that a total of 894,076 persons have so far been vaccinated against the the disease countrywide.

Of these 275, 453 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers (158,772), Teachers (139,221) Security Officers (75,169) and Others (245,461).
