The Jubilee Party National Management Committee on Thursday, May 20 announced that it will be conducting nominations through face to face interviews for the upcoming by-elections in Kiambaa constituency and Muguga ward.
In a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke and signed by Secretary General Raphael Tuju, the committee revealed that it arrived at the decision after reviewing applications submitted to the county elections board by the applicants.
This is a change from how the party selected its flagbearer in the recent Juja by-election, which was done by way of voting in party primaries.
The interviews will be conducted at the Jubilee party headquarters in Pangani, Nairobi on 22nd, May 2021 from 9am.
The party apologised to the aspirants for the abrupt change in nomination strategy and assured that the process would be democratic, impartial and transparent.
Murang'a senator Irungu Kang'ata who campaigned against Jubilee's candidate in Juja opined that the changes would not deliver a different result, framing it as jumping from a frying pan into the fire.
Jubilee had on 27th April, sent out a notice for interested members to submit their application forms before the 2nd of May.
Applicants were required to download, print and fill the form. After that, they would scan and email it to the party's email address.
Upon receiving the applications, the County Elections Board would deliberate on who would vie for the party's ticket. Once decided, announce who was chosen as the candidate.
However, this time round, any person who is interested to vie for the seats will have to show up physically for an interview with the elections board.
The Kiambaa by election seat fell vacant after the Member of Parliament, the Late Paul Koinange died in March. He was receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
The late MCA Eliud Ngugi passed on In March at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
Jubilee Party lost the Juja by-election after their candidate Susan Njeri came in second.
She lost the Peoples Empowerment Party's candidate George Koimburi, who beat her with a difference of over 6,000 votes.
