Police officers have rescued a pastor based in Kabete after he was a victim of hijacking incident on Thursday, May 20.

In a statement on Friday, May 21, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations explained that the clergyman had been hijacked at 8 p.m by four armed men, as he drove home in his vehicle, a white Nissan Advan.

The armed gang took control of his vehicle and drove towards Kiamumbi, in Kiambu county. In a twist of events, police officers were tipped off and intervened.

They pursued the suspects while a separate team laid an ambush along Kamiti Road. The vehicle was intercepted a few metres past Jacaranda Gardens.

They were immediately ordered to surrender but defied the orders culminating in a fierce shootout that left two of the gang members dead.

The other two suspects managed to disappear nursing gunshot wounds sustained from the shootout. The traumatized clergyman was however untouched from the attempted hijack.

The police were able to recover a Smith and Wesson pistol and a knife from the suspects that were used in the attack.

A manhunt for the two suspects who disappeared is currently ongoing with citizens urged to share any information on their whereabouts.

This comes in the wake when police arrested a five-member gang that was believed to be behind a spate of carjackings targeting taxi operators.

The five, according to the police, operate between Githurai, Ruiru, and Kirigiti in Kiambu County with their main target being Little Cab drivers.

Three of the suspects are said to be ex-convicts who had been jailed for various capital offenses, including robbery with violence and murder.
