Harambee Stars and Qatari club Al-Duhail striker Michael Olunga cleared medical bills for Kenya's international goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi.

On Thursday, June 24, the Michael Olunga Foundation partnered with a betting firm and offset the bills accrued at Kakamega Referral Hospital.

Matasi and his family were involved in a road accident along the Nairobi-Kakamega Highway in early June 2021.

Their car was reported to have rolled severally at Lesos, Kapsabet after the tyre burst. Both Patrick's wife and son underwent surgeries while Matasi was discharged a day after the accident.

"The Michael Olunga Foundation and the betting firm joined hands to clear the medical bills for the Harambee Stars goalkeeper.

"The family is now in recovery and hopefully by your prayers and ours, their lives will regain normalcy," Olunga stated.

He further disclosed that they also paid the bills for 30 other patients at the hospital.

"I would like to express many thanks to the hospital administrator Mr. Titus Mumia, the County Government of Kakamega, Peter Atsiaya and our various teams for the effort," the footballer added.

The professional engineer who has captained Harambee Stars in a number of matches was lauded for his gesture.

"Giving back to society. This is very encouraging. Your rivers will never run dry. It is my wish that other sportsmen emulate you," one Peter Mugambi praised.

"30 other patients I don't take for granted. Thanks for your kindness," Enock Ochongo added.

"May God bless the work of your hands. I feel the joy of those 30 patients. Live long," Mavo Achiko Nafula lauded.
