Former police spokesman Charles Owino and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi engaged in a war of words during the burial of Siaya Woman Representative aspirant Florence Aluodo on Saturday, July 3.

Both Owino and Wandayi sought to outdo each other while campaigning for the Siaya Gubernatorial seat ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Addressing mourners at Bar Atheng Primary School in Ugunja, Owino stated that he would seek the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in the upcoming nominations.

Owino accused Wandayi of conspiring to deny the late Aluodo victory during the ODM primaries in 2017.

"I can assure my supporters that no one will steal my votes...I vow to transform the County," Owino stated.

In a rejoinder, Wandayi dismissed the allegations and stated that the ODM party primaries would be free and fair in the next elections.

"Prepare to face me and accept whichever outcome," Wandayi stated.

The lawmaker further expressed confidence that the BBI Constitutional Bill will go through at the Court of Appeal.

"We are not taking any chances and we are confident that we will form the next government," the lawmaker stated.

The deceased died due to Covid-19 complications while receiving treatment at Mater Hospital in Nairobi.

She had vied as an Independent candidate after decamping from ODM. At the time, there were claims of shambolic nominations.

Aluodo, however, lost to women representative Christine Ombaka.
