Governor Mutua on the evening of July 14, 2021, delivered a pleasant surprise to a group of elderly women who were hosted at Machakos office dubbed the White House where they had lunch and were showered with gifts.

The women were friends with his late grandmother Martha Teve from Masii in Machakos County. He said that they used to come to their home and played a critical role in moulding him as he grew up in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke , the Machakos governor expressed how they reminded him of his cheeky childhood memories and how he used to tell them jokes.

The Governor   who was full of praise and appreciation for them gifted them with goodies ranging from money to quality blankets, free chicken and chicken feeds , dams and boreholes and bursaries for their grandchildren.

“I thanked them for their love, their words of wisdom and their prayers. Once you take care of your mother and mothers, you have taken care of the community," the Governor noted.

The grannies who are in their sunset years of their life heaped praise for the governor for helping them access facilities such as piped water to their homesteads.

Most of these grannies are widows and they took advantage of this meeting to air their grievances to their governor, ranging from money the elderly receive from the government not getting to them.

Mutua assured them of his commitment to ensuring poverty is rolled back so that everyone has money in their pockets. They promised to visit him again next year in the State House if he clinches the seat.

Mutua, who threw his hat in the 2022 Presidential ring, has been on a campaign trail in a bid to popularize his Maendeleo Chap Chap party.

He is among a section of politicians who have declared their interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Among them include Deputy President William Ruto, businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.

As the elections draws near, these politicians tend to devise tactics in order to gain favour among Kenyans to secure their votes.
