On March 1, 2021, the National Museums of Kenya (NMK) disclosed that it was developing a museum on heroism and other related facilities.
It called for Kenyans who had cultural and historical objects to make a donation to the new museum.
Since then, the doors to Uhuru Gardens have remained closed and a makeshift fence erected leaving the public to second guess what is going on in the once-popular mausoleum and recreation point.
Images seen by kenyans.co.ke have revealed the progress of construction going on at Uhuru Gardens. The images reveal an ariel view of the buildings taking shape.
In the photos, the new buildings under construction are inspired by Kenya's Court of Arms. At the centre is a semi-circular structure similar to the shield.
On one of the pointed sides of the main structure are two wedge-shaped structures. On the other side, two arrow-shaped structures are coming up.
Currently, the structures are at their skeleton phase-only the pillars and the slabs are already set up.
The park was closed in June 2020, the National Museums of Kenya (NMK)closed Kenya's biggest museum to allow for the renovation of the museum.
This was after the then Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage Amina Mohammed discovered that the structures and monuments in the park had been worn down inspected the facility.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been making random inspections of the facility.
A security guard manning the gate allegedly asked for a bribe from the Head of State to allow him to access the facility during one of his late-night inspections.
The renovation is projected to be concluded by December 2021.
