A man was sentenced to three years in prison for killing his two-year-old daughter by mistake due to his mental illness.

The court heard that the man was off his medication when he came home and found his daughter in bed with her mother only for him to take a knife and stab her.

BKM as identified in court documents reportedly killed the girl named SMK on October 15, 2018, at Utawala Estate in Nairobi by stabbing her in the chest and abdomen.

According to the testimony provided before the court, BKM killed the child due to hallucinations as a result of his failure to take his prescriptive medicine.

“I find that the accused was the author of his mental problems for deliberately failing to take medication as required. What he did to his daughter is a direct consequence of his action to stop the medication,” the Nation quoted Justice Jessie Lesiit in her ruling.

In her ruling Justice Lesiit declined to give BKM a non-custodial sentence noting that the suspect needs to stay in jail and understand the full consequences of his actions.

BKM admitted to the offence and entered into a plea bargain with the State which led to him pleading guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Meanwhile, self-confessed serial child serial killer Masten Wanjala on Thursday, July 15, came out to implicate other suspects in the harrowing murders of over 10 children.

Wanjala claimed he carried the murders with the help of an individual by the name of "Isaac". He told cops that Isaac helped him carry out the murders in Kitengela and other places.

The suspect further revealed that the first murders he ever committed were with the aid of four individuals. He also alleged that the four individuals included three men and one woman whose names he did not disclose.

"Niliua kijana mmoja mara ya kwanza huko tulikuwa wanne huko nyumbani ushago... alafu huyo kijana wakamzika an dawa (I committed my first murder of a boy with the help of four individuals back home)," narrated Wanjala.

The suspect is in police custody for 30 days to allow for further investigations.
