The Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua has trashed reports of being fired from the government parastatal.

Through his social media accounts on Thursday August 5, Mutua dismissed the reports doing rounds as malicious.

He added that the agency has not announced the existence of a vacancy for the position of CEO.

"My attention has been drawn to reports on social media to the effect that I have been fired as CEO of KFCB. PLEASE IGNORE such malicious rumours. I am not aware of such developments and there can be no grain of truth in them as there's no vacancy in the office of the CEO KFCB," Mutua stated.

The information about him being fired was first shared by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr who claimed that he has been sent home by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.

"Ezekiel Mutua unlawfully removed by CS Mucheru as CEO after being lawfully appointed by the Board. Laws are mere suggestions for this administration," Mutula Kilonzo wrote on his social media page.

This comes just weeks following a leaked confidential letter addressed to CS Mucheru on Friday, July 23, revealing KFCB boardroom wrangles.

The letter marked as "confidential" seen by Kenyans.co.ke, indicated that any decision made towards the renewal of Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua's contract for a third term was illegal and void.

The letter quoted a circular which outlined the policy to guide the reappointment for CEOs of state corporations.

"Consequently, any decision made relating to the renewal of the CEO's contract should not be executed and any such decision and the execution thereof shall have consequences borne by those responsible for the same individually and collectively," read an excerpt of the letter.
