Deputy President William Ruto on Friday, August 6, made a phone call to Embu residents who were demonstrating following the death of two brothers who are suspected to have been killed by police officers.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the DP, who was on loudspeaker, condoled with the family of the deceased and demanded a speedy investigation into the matter.
Ruto requested the protestors to keep calm, adding that he would personally make sure the culprits are brought to book.
"We will not sleep until justice is served and the culprits are brought to book. We demand to know how two youngsters died, whether in the hands of police or other people," the DP stated.
Protestors took to the streets since Wednesday following the death of Benson Njiru Ndwiga, 22, and Emmanuel Mutura Ndwiga, 19.
Unfortunately, one person was shot dead during the protests.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai is expected to visit the area on Friday and condole with the family of the deceased.
In addition, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has deployed investigators from its Nairobi headquarters to beef up their Meru Rapid Investigations counterparts who launched their investigations.
"Once investigations are concluded, the authority will make recommendations, including prosecution if criminal culpability is established on the part of the police officers involved," reads an excerpt of the statement.
Autopsy results done at the Embu Level V hospital morgue indicated that the brothers death was caused by multiple injuries which could have been caused by a blunt force trauma.
