Police are holding a Turkish businessman alleged to have been part of Deputy President William Ruto's  aborted trip.

Citizen TV confirmed that the Turk was reportedly picked on Saturday, August 7 at the Wilson Airport while re-entering the country from Uganda.

He is allegedly being detained by police officers for questioning.

In a statement on Facebook, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi alleged that he was aboard the same police vehicle with the businessman.

"They allege they want to interrogate him but they are trying to provoke the Deputy President because he remained silent when they blocked him from traveling," Sudi claimed.

The businessman came to the limelight on Tuesday, August 7, after it was alleged that he was among five people scheduled to accompany the DP to Uganda.

In an interview on Wednesday, August 4, the DP dismissed claims that he was a man of questionable character, adding that he was a respected businessman.

"Those claiming that this man is a terrorist are not only soiling his name but that of Kenya as a Country," the DP stated.

The Turkish Embassy in Nairobi defended the businessman saying that he was an investor who had been in Kenya on several occasions.

Further, the embassy stated that the businessman was a law abiding citizen who was legally in Kenya having travelled using his Turkish passport.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who is also a close ally of the DP, had predicted that the State would arrest the businessman.

"The State has been sponsoring stories of Turkish businessman in the newspaper, I have no doubt that if he comes to Kenya he will be arrested even if it’s for few hours just to get to link DP Ruto with crime or something for political interest," he stated.
