A Ugandan citizen on Friday, August 6, lodged a complaint against Kenya at the East African Court of Justice in Arusha.
Dr. Paul Bamutaze made the complaint following utterances made by a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Members of Parliament against the National Resistance Movement (NRM) during a press conference held in Parliament on Wednesday, August 4.
In court documents seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the applicant listed the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya as the respondent and was given 45 days to file a response.
"You are hereby notified that the above-mentioned applicant has instituted a reference against you, a copy of which is annexed hereto. You are hereby required to file a response within 45 days from the day of service hereof, the reference will be heard and determined in your absence," reads an except of the document.
During the press conference, ODM Chairman John Mbadi accused Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni of disrespecting Kenya.
Further, Mbadi alleged that Museveni was pushing his political ideologies on Kenya.
"We are not bothered with whether Ruto was cleared or not, we are interested in his relationship with Uganda," the ODM chairman stated.
On his part, Suna East MP, Junet Mohammed, alleged that Ruto's trips to Uganda meant that the DP would not concede if he lost next year's General Election.
"Ruto wants to ride to power by taking advantage of those in desperation hence pushing them to deeper misery... Ruto's relationship with Museveni is aimed at creating chaos in the event he is defeated in 2022," Junet stated.
On Monday, August 2, the DP was on his way to Kampala when he was blocked from leaving the country.
In an interview, the DP stated that the decision to deny him authority to leave the country was politically instigated due to leadership differences between him and pro-President Uhuru Kenyatta allies.
“Since when did I start seeking permission? I have been the DP for nine years, and I have travelled far and wide across East Africa and the world and I have never been asked for clearance," the DP stated.
