Four Police Officers Shot During Night Raid

Four police officers sustained gunshot wounds after unknown bandits shot them on Saturday, August 14.

The officers who were in their tent in Laikipia Nature Conservancy were ambushed at 10 pm by armed bandits who opened fire at the four unsuspecting officers. 

One officer narrowly escaped death after a bullet aimed at him hit his cheek near his left eye. Two other officers escaped with gunshot wounds on their legs.

Three officers were rushed to Sopili Nursing Home where clinical officer Bernard Kinyua managed to contain their bleeding.

An officer who had a bullet lounged in his chest was transferred to another hospital for specialized treatment.

The attackers have been hiding in the vast conservancy and are believed to be behind a series of livestock thefts and are believed to be targeting uniformed officers.

A police officer lost his life during a shoot-out with herders who invaded a ranch belonging to Kuki Gallman, a white settler, on July 31.

On July 28, Interior Cabinet Secretary commissioned officers from the Kenya Defense Forces and special unit officers to protect ranchers in the county.

This came after ranch owners raised an alarm over the increased attacks and cattle raids by unknown bandits. Matiang'i assured the residents that the special unit would flash out the invaders.

"We are preparing a crack operation. It will be merciless and it will be very firm, please don't weep," the Interior CS announced.

In a period of six months, six people have been killed in connection with the land invasions in the area while eight have been left nursing serious injuries.

The series of attacks have increased tension in the area. In addition, learning activities within the region have also been paralysed.
