Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has ruled out the possibility of being the running mate to Deputy President William Ruto in the upcoming presidential elections.
Speaking at an interview on Inooro TV on August 18, Karua revealed that she would reject any offer to join Ruto in his bid to the State House.
She reiterated her interest as solely in running for the gubernatorial seat of Kirinyaga County in the 2022 General Election.
Karua added that she would not seek the presidency in next year's election but would be open to the idea in future elections.
"I have said this time and time again, my only political interests are to run for the gubernatorial seat of Kirinyaga County. I have no interest in being Ruto's running mate."
"I won that seat in 2017 but my victory was stolen and that's why I want to serve my people. If God gives me more years, I still would want to be President in the future," Karua explained.
The former presidential aspirant went on to urge Mt. Kenya leaders to join hands as the 2022 elections approach.
"We need to plan ourselves. As Mt. Kenya leaders, we cannot wait for others to draw up their game plan while we sit around. If we don't plan, others will plan ahead of us," the former Minister of Justice stated.
She went on to criticize Uhuru for excluding Mt. Kenya leaders in State House meetings recently held with Opposition politicians.
The Narc Kenya boss said she was shocked by President Uhuru Kenyatta's conduct and that she had not seen any other previous heads of state push for a candidate before the lapse of their term.
Karua claimed President Kenyatta wanted to sideline Mt. Kenya leaders in order to advance his agendas of leading the region when his term ends.
"It is peculiar how the President has not been inviting Mt. Kenya leaders to his recent Mombasa meetings. I think the President wants to make sure that no Mt. Kenya leader is on the table in order to intimidate them and later extend his political interest of being the region's preferred political leader when he comes out of office next year," she opined.
Karua recently blasted President Kenyatta for wanting to impose his will on the Mt. Kenya electorate and asked him to stop trying to influence the outcome of next year's elections.
She also asked the President to let the Mount Kenya people make political decisions independently.
