The building that houses popular Nairobi eatery, Sonford Fish and Chips was razed down by fire on Friday night, August 27.
Firefighters battled to put out the fire at the establishment situated along Nairobi’s Moi Avenue, but the inferno spread to the adjacent building, leading to even more losses.
County firefighters managed to put out the fire at around 11pm. They managed this with the assistance and coordination of police, who locked down a part of the road to keep away crowds that had began forming, although it was past curfew hours.
Police believe the fire started at the popular fast-food joint before it spread to adjacent business premises.
Helpless business owners who were at the scene watched as the fire razed down their premises, with nothing much to do.
Some business owners who watched as the fire burned down their stalls complained about losing the property of immense value. The business premises houses stalls that sell, among others, mobile phones, laptops, clothes and beauty products.
The incident has happened a month after an inferno burned down a section of the Gatakaini Investment building in the Central Business District (CBD).
Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed smoke billowing from the top floor offices of the building located opposite Khoja Mosque.
The fire brigade responded in time, but the smoke could still be seen billowing from the building.
Following the incident, Thika Highway from the Khoja roundabout was temporarily closed to allow the first responders to put out the inferno before it spread to other parts of the large building.
