Allies of Deputy President (DP) William Ruto on Thursday, September 2, threatened to expose what they called "illegal land dealings by President Uhuru Kenyatta's family".
Led by Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua, at the Deputy President's Karen Residence in Nairobi County, on Thursday, September 2, Ruto allies were livid at Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Fred Matiang'i, who gave an 'exaggerated' lifestyle audit of Ruto, after he was summoned by MPs on Wednesday, September 1
Gachagua, who seemed riled from what he termed a "faulty lifestyle audit of the DP", showing the Second in Comand owned large swathes of land, threatened to unleashed a dossier exposing what he described as unscrupulous land dealings by the Head of State and his family.
"Matiang'i has done the right thing by introducing the topic of land ownership...And we will now start addressing land issues now that they have brought up the topic. We want to know who stole Mau Mau parcels of land in Kahawa and in Nakuru; who owns those parcels of land and how many GSU officers are guarding them?" inquired Gachagua.
The Mathira MP spent five years as Uhuru's personal assistant in the early 2000s but is now one of the President's fiercest critics, with his Thursday sentiments arousing curiosity.
Gachagua's sentiments were echoed by former Senator of Mombasa County, Hassan Omar, and Kiambu County Women Representative, Gathoni Wamuchomba.
The duo thanked Matiang'i for bringing up the issue of illegal land ownership in the country and threatened to expose the different parcels of land allegedly owned by the President.
"If any probing is done, we will find out that the founding fathers of this country were the founding thieves of this country, " stated former Senator Hassan Omar.
Omar's sentiments were underscored by Wamuchomba who wondered why the Interior CS would bring up such a sensitive topic to the forefront, without noticing the irony.
"I was very surprised that Matiang'i brought up a very sensitive chapter, and if we start talking about lands being stolen, there are people who are going to go into hiding because we know all about the stolen lands."
"There are so many people from my County whose sons and daughters of Mau Mau fighters have no land and they don't even have a place to bury their family. So when they bring the topic of land, we will turn on the heat and ask very hard questions," lamented Wamuchomba.
Ruto on his part set the record straight in regard to the list of his properties exposed by Matiang'i as his during the Parliamentary committee meeting. Ruto noted that out of the tens of properties listed, about 70 percent were true.
While chiding Matiang'i, the DP stated that some key details were not included on the list, terming it a faulty 'lifestyle audit' and dismissed it as misleading and inconsequential.
"They included properties that I do not own on the list, so allow me to correct them. Out of the ten properties listed, 70 percent are true, the others are false.
"The first on the list that they need to remove is the 10,000 acre ADC Laikipia Mutara Ranch. They also forgot to add that I have 400,000 shares from a local telco company," he stated.
