A section of Kenyans have caused an uproar after a female taxi client with the moniker Suzzy Cerra on Instagram was allegedly assaulted by a driver.

The incident happened after Cerra together with her brother made a request to the cab driver at around 9 pm on Sunday, August 29.

Cerra claimed that she and her brother made the request from Diamond plaza, Nairobi County on the said date. However, when the driver arrived, there was a misunderstanding with Cerra alleging that the driver had hiked fare.

She would then end the trip but the driver became bitter and turned violent, assaulting her brother with a club (rungu).

"Afterwards, he brandished his knife aiming for my brother's forehead and in an attempt to rescue him, I blocked him using my hand before I fell down and the suspect drove off," she disclosed.

Her story was not taken lightly by a section of Kenyans who demanded an explanation from the taxi app management.

"It has been 3 days and nothing has been done. Your driver has been walking freely and has not been apprehended up to now. The victim walked to your offices today only to be faced with frustration as her plea to talk to you guys fell on deaf ears," Wamuyu Nduta, a friend to the suspect stated.

On Friday, September 3, the taxi management broke its silence on the matter after issuing a statement and giving the driver's side of the story.

"The driver alleges that upon arrival, the rider was in the company of 8 people who also wanted to board the car. He explained to the client that he cannot carry beyond the licensed capacity of four passengers.

"The rider didn't want to listen and her friends proceeded to physically attack the driver. The driver defended himself from the attack of the rider and her friends," reads an excerpt of the statement.

In addition, the management stated that it had unsuccessfully tried to reach out to the complainant several times to offer support and requested that she reports the incident at the Parklands police station.

"Once a case number has been shared by the rider, we will work with the police to support their investigations into the incident and share any data that can help them with the case."
