Kenyans have taken to social media to recreate events from the 2021 Met Gala which took place on Monday, September 13 in New York City, United States.

Using the #MetNgara, social media users posted some of their creative posts to celebrate Kenya’s satirical version of the Met Gala event.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event held in the United States of America (USA) to raise funds for the world’s largest art museum.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is based in New York City, holds pieces of art from different countries all over the world.

“The Metropolitan Museum of Art presents over 5,000 years of art from around the world for everyone to experience and enjoy,” the museum website states.

The event is usually attended by popular celebrities in the music and film industry. The Gala is known for the high-end fashion that is showcased by celebrities on the red carpet.

Since the actual event started trending on Twitter under the #MetGala, Kenyans created their own #MetNgara to replicate the event.

Ngara is a lower middle-class estate in the outskirts of Nairobi city - known for aggressive second hand clothes hawkers.

Some of the users have recreated memorable attires that were worn by celebrities at the event.

A section of Kenyans has also used their creativity in participating in the trending hashtag by cropping images of celebrities and replacing them with their own pictures.

The trend has also been marked by comic captions with many celebrating the cultural diversity in the country.

Since the hashtag started trending, Kenyans have celebrated the creativity that has been exhibited by Kenyan social media users.
