Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday night, September 27, arrested a couple based in Kilgoris, Nakuru County over their daughter's death.
According to the DCI, the couple were engaged in a heated argument, which spiralled into a full-blown physical fight.
This led to a fatal strike on their eight-year-old daughter's head after the woman ducked as the man tried to hit her with a piece of wood.
"The two suspects, who were on each other’s throats in the 10 pm incident, immediately stopped their fight and together carried their daughter to the hospital for medical attention," read part of the statement.
Along the way, the couple was stopped by police officers for travelling past curfew hours. However, owing to the condition of the little girl who had a deep cut on the head, the officers rushed them to nearby Kilgoris sub-county hospital in a bid to help save the minor's life.
"Upon arrival at the facility, doctors tried to attend to the girl whose condition had worsened. Unfortunately, she lost her life while undergoing treatment," DCI stated.
The couple was arrested and taken to Kilgoris police station and are now awaiting arraignment in court.
Domestic violence has become prevalent in the recent past, with couples engaging in fights following misunderstandings.
Detectives are worried and have on several occasions urged couples to find amicable ways of solving domestic issues or go for counselling.
According to data from the Global Database on Violence against Women, 40.7 % of married women in Kenya have reported being victims of either domestic violence or sexual abuse.
