A video has emerged showing last moments before a boda boda rider, Rabin Ogeto, met his death along Kirinyaga Road in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) on Saturday, September 25.

In the video issued by the deceased's family, around six boda boda riders appear to be in a confrontation with two armed police officers. One of the police officers shoots in the air with an aim of dispersing the rowdy riders.

Shortly after, the police officer can be seen charging towards a boda boda rider who runs for his life. Unfortunately, the officer aims and shoots him in the back.

He then turns to two riders standing nearby and assaults one of them before he and his colleague walk away.

Angered by the happenings, enraged boda boda riders gathered near the scene and started demonstrating to protest the shooting of their colleague whose body was lying lifeless in the middle of the road.

The unfortunate events begun unfolding when the deceased was allegedly flagged down by a police officer on patrol for riding on the wrong side of Kirinyaga road.

Dennis Achieng, the chairman United Bodaboda Association, stated that the officer demanded a bribe, which Ogeto refused to give him.

"Ogeto said he did not have any money and an altercation started. The officer shot him dead," Achieng narrated.

On her part, Central Police Deputy OCPD Dorris Kemey, stated that officers were walking but suddenly heard a gunshot and realised they had left their colleague behind.

"He had been attacked by a mob of bodaboda riders. They rushed back to check on him only to find him lying on the ground forcing them to shoot in the air to disperse the mob," she stated.

Kemey added that the rider got shot when one of the protestors attempted to snatch a gun from the said officer.

A post mortem examination disclosed that the deceased died of excess hemorrhage from a gun shot.

The family is seeking justice for the loss of their kin.

"He was very obedient, responsible and was supporting the sister with school fees," said his father Daniel Aboki.
