The burial of the late Nakuru doctor, James Gakara and his two children Dylan and Karuana, took place on Tuesday, September 28, at their family home in Muririchwa area of Mbaruk in Gilgil sub-county.

The ceremony was attended by family members, friends and colleagues of the late doctor. Gakara was buried in one grave while the two children shared a grave.

The eulogy of Winnie Odhiambo, the deceased's wife, was read out by her two friends. Odhiambo recounted how she and the late doctor met while in the line of duty.

She was an intern while Gakara was the attending doctor.

"...We both scrubbed in for surgery. It was my first surgery and I was nervous, deep down into the surgery, I dropped down a few instruments at once and chills run down my spine, I was completely shaking, I thought Dr Gakara would shout at me.

"He, however, looked at me calmly and told me not to worry. He said I was there to learn. I was so touched and as they say, the rest is history."

Odhiambo disclosed that their eight-year-union was beautiful and reiterated that it was not easy to find a great marriage.

She showered praises on her husband, saying that he was a good partner, listener and always compassionate.

"My heart bleeds and I am completely shattered. Never in my wildest dreams have I ever thought of something like this...I don't know how my weekends will be, how my Sundays will be spent. I have lost my strength and purpose in life."

While eulogising her two children, she narrated two of their favourite stories (The donkey in a well and the big bad wolf and three little piglets.)

Gakara is accused of killing his two children by injecting them with an unknown chemical substance, before attempting suicide on Sunday, September 19.

The doctor was rushed to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital, where he died after three days on Wednesday, September 22.

Autopsy results conducted on the three were inconclusive. However, some samples were taken to the Government Chemist for toxicology analysis.
