A contractor involved in a legal suit with Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmas Barasa on Thursday, September 30 claimed foul play.

Stephen Masinde, popularly known by his stage name, 'Steve K', expressed doubts on whether he would get a fair hearing.

Masinde stated that he went to court for a mention of the case only to find that it was a hearing which he and his legal team were not prepared for. This is because his lawyer was absent.

He stated that when he tried to raise the issue with the Magistrate that he was not prepared for the hearing, his plea was turned down.

"I tried raising complaints with the magistrates that my lawyer was absent as he was in Nairobi and that she should allow me more time but she turned me down," he stated.

Steve K explained that he made changes to his legal team and the lawyer based in Nairobi was to replace his former lawyer. He added that his new advocate had just begun going through his file and wasn't ready for the case yet.

On the other hand the Kimilili MP came to court prepared with a team of seven lawyers. Masinde stated that he had to defend himself in court.

"He had very many lawyers. They wanted to challenge me but I managed to argue out myself because I was present when it all happened," he stated.

The contractor and musician called for the case to be moved from Kimilili to Bungoma stating that he did not feel safe in Kimilili and that Barasa would have an upper hand since it was in his home turf.

Masinde asked the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji and the Judicial Service Commission to step in to ensure that the MP doesn't use illegal means and his influence to manipulate the law.

Steve K accused Barasa of allegedly slapping him at Baptist Lurare Primary School on July 31 for refusing to unlock classrooms he had renovated due to delayed pay.

The Kimilili legislator, however, denied the claims, stating that he was only alerting him to zip up his trousers as his fly was open.
