Five Wiper Party ward represtatives are in trouble over their recent unofficial visit to the Deputy President William Ruto’s residence in Karen.
The visit made by five MCA's, Tariq Mulatya of Masinga Central, Cosmus Ngula of Matungulu East, Cosmus Kieti of Lower Kaewa, Joseph Wambua of Mbiuni and Agatha Mutunga, a nominated MCA triggered much debate among locals.
Speaking on Friday, October 1, Machakos County Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi together with Deputy Speaker Paul Museku and Leader of Majority Mark Muendo stated that the action taken by these MCA's was unacceptable, and disciplinary action against them has already begun.
While giving her sentiments, Mwangangi insisted that there are laid down structures in regards to how political leaders relate with members from different political parties.
“The code of conduct of political leaders is well spelt out in the Political Parties Act as regards their relationship with other political parties or institutions,” Mwangangi noted.
She further mentioned that their actions were against the established guidelines and principles set out in the law, and that they should be well prepared because punitive measures against them was not debatable.
Notably, the Machakos County Assembly speaker termed this action as gross misconduct.
Mwangangi’s remarks were backed by the Deputy Speaker and the leader of the majority who argued the leaders disrespected their sponsor party.
They expressed that the MCA's should have known better due to the fact that Ruto is running against the Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka in next year's General Election.
The MCA's in their defence critiqued the accusations and said that they visited Ruto, not as the UDA party leader but as the deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
Mwangangi however brushed off their remarks and maintained that even that call has formal procedures that need to be followed.
“They cannot argue that they were paying a courtesy call on the Deputy President because such arrangements are done procedurally and formally through the established offices. In this case, it was obvious that they went there in their own capacities because their visit was never sanctioned by the Wiper party,” Mwangangi noted.
