A family hailing from Homabay county has been camping at Homabay High School for about a week now, as they demand answers on the whereabouts of their son.
The family says that their boy, Franklin Otieno, left home for school on August 30, after the half term break and they presumed that the boy was safe because no concern was raised by the school.
Andrew Ogwang, Franklin's father, shared that it was not until this week when the schools were preparing to close that he got the news that his son could not be traced.
Ogwang narrates that he sent fare to his son’s class teacher for the boy's journey home and it was then that the teacher broke the devastating news that the boy had not reported to school.
“We knew the schools were closing this week, so I sent fare to his class teacher. He said he had been trying to reach me because Franklin never reported back to school,” the devastated father narrated.
Franklin’s parents have faulted the school for being irresponsible because parents are not allowed to visit schools with the current covid-19 pandemic and therefore, the teachers should take the responsibility of informing parents on the wellbeing of their children.
“This is sheer negligence on the school and the administration. We expect the management to inform us about the welfare of our children because we can’t be allowed to visit our children,” Ogwang remarked.
The family of Franklin now wants the school administration to explain why they took so long to inform them about their son’s absenture.
While the family demands answers from the school, the school maintains that the form three boy never reported back to school.
“According to the records of the school, Franklin did not report back to school, and so, he has been absent since we resumed from half term,” Vincent Mayienga, Homabay High School Principal noted.
After Franklin’s cube mates were interviewed, it was clear that Franklin had hinted that he could possibly fail to report back to school.
The boy has not been traced yet, and the matter has been taken over by the police.
