In a statement by DCI on Sunday, October 3, one of the the three thugs was gunned down while the two escaped with gunshot wounds.

The incident, which occurred in the wee hours of Sunday Morning, the marauding gang had staged a robbery in the Harmony area of Dandora, Nairobi County.

"A criminal who was robbing city residents of their valuables gun point, was this morning gunned down as two of his accomplices fled the scene with gunshot wounds."

"The suspect who was felled by our agents’ fire could not be immediately identified as he had no identification documents with him," read the police statement in part.

The officers from Dandora responded to a distress call made to DCI hotline and found the thugs attacking a woman who was on her way home.

In retaliation, the three thugs opened fire on the police officers which turned into a shootout that left one of them dead.

"His cowardly accomplices, who will live to tell the story of how their master lost his life after challenging law enforcement agents to a duel, dived into a sewer channel and swum through the sludge towards Njiru."

"Detectives are hot on their trail. Meanwhile, the woman who had been attacked by the thugs was escorted home by the officers," added the statement.

Luckily, the woman did not suffer any injuries.

Crime in Nairobi County has been on the rise in the recent months owing to high unemployment due to a deteriorating state of economy.
