South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro warned residents of his constituency that they would be disqualified from bursaries if they failed to register in the ongoing voter registration drive.

Speaking in on Monday, the MP  told the youth to turn up and register as voters lest they would miss out on the bursaries offered under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Osoro stated that a voters card would be a mandatory requirement during their application for the funds.

"In one month's time, we will be announcing bursaries. Applications will be done using your voter's card and not your national identification card," he stated.

He added that underaged applicants will have to produce their parent's or guardian's voter's card.

"For the young ones, you are aware that you will need to attach your father's ID card. However, this time you will attach his voting card," he stated.

Osoro made the remarks during a funds drive for infrastructure development of both Bogichincho and Nyakembene Secondary Schools presided by Deputy President William Ruto.

The MP, who is allied to the DP's used the forum to drum up support for Ruto.

He told the youth that the only way to ensure that Ruto gets into power is by voting for him. Osoro stated that youth can only vote for Ruto if they had a voter's card.

In regards to this, the lawmaker asked the youth to turn up in large numbers for the mass voter registration exercise launched by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on October 4.

"If you do not have a voters card, walk into a registration centre with your ID and get a voters card. However much we love William Ruto, if we don't have voting cards, we have not helped him," he stated.

He called a member of the IEBC staff who was in the area, a lady dawning an IEBC reflector to illustrate to the youth how to identify the persons responsible for registering new voters.
