Legendary state broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) news anchor Badi Muhsin took his final breath on Friday, October 8, moments after taking his lunch.
The 67-year-old, who was famed for the Kiswahili news show dubbed Dira ya Dunia on KBC, was visiting Mombasa County on a work assignment.
Family members who spoke to the media stated that his death came as a shock especially because he had shared meals with friends on Thursday and Friday.
After taking his meal on Friday, Muhsin went for a nap but unfortunately, never woke up.
"He had come to Mombasa for work, for a KBC programme. Yesterday (Thursday), we ate lunch together and today he ate with his friends. He was stable all through," his brother, Hafidh Muhsin, stated.
On Thursday, the deceased had also visited the grave of the late KTN news anchor, Ahmed Darwesh, and said a prayer for him.
In one of the scribes group, Muhsin had also engaged in a conversation about the late veteran broadcaster, the late Mohamed Juma Njuguna.
"Ameen Yaarab," Muhsin wrote at 14:55pm on Friday in response to a conversation on the passing of Juma in 2019.
The family will be transporting his body to Nairobi where the burial will be held.
Condolence messages for the late Muhsin have been streaming in since Friday with most praising him for his talent and charisma.
KBC Managing Director, Naim Bilal, expressed shock and disbelief when he learnt of the sudden demise of the Kiswahili Broadcaster.
Bilal described Muhsin as a disciplined and dedicated news anchor who loved and enjoyed his work. Badi’s death comes four months after making a comeback to KBC.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has also mourned Muhsin as a devoted and patriotic who contributed immensely to the development of journalism in the country.
"He was loyal to the core, steadfast and highly committed to his profession and employer KBC. Mr Muhsin was a true Kenyan trailblazer and role model whose recent return to KBC after years of rest, was an act of selflessness and love for his profession and country," the President eulogised.
