Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati has joined a cluster of lawmakers who have devised new ways of catching the attention of new voters ahead of 2022 elections.

During a rally in Bonchari on Sunday, October 10, the lawmaker promised goodies for those who will register as voters for the first time.

The MP promised to buy all registered voters a bottle of soda of their choice, noting that his team had already set up an office that would verify if the individuals are registered.

"I have said beginning next week, as long as you are registered as a new voter or have a voter's card, you will be passing through here," stated the MP.

"There will be a computer and people who will search for your name, if it is found, you will be given a soda and go. The office is right here."

The MP will be defending his Parliamentary seat for the third time in 2022 since he was elected during the 2013 general elections.

Arati joins a growing list of legislators who are leaving nothing to chance to have youths register as voters.

On Monday, October 4, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro warned residents of his constituency that they would be disqualified from bursaries if they failed to register in the ongoing voter registration drive.

The MP  told the youth to turn up and register as voters lest they would miss out on the bursaries offered under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Osoro stated that a voters card would be a mandatory requirement during their application for the funds.

"In one month's time, we will be announcing bursaries. Applications will be done using your voter's card and not your national identification card," he stated.

In a separate incident, fishermen and boda bodas in Homa Bay County complained of a police crackdown that barred them from operating unless they are registered as voters.
