Winnie Odinga, the daughter of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, has narrated how she grew up, without her father always by her side.

Speaking to the Mount Kenya youths on Tuesday, October 12, Winnie recalled how she could see her father after a long time, because he gave much of his time to the people of Kenya.

While glowingly talking about her father, Winnie noted that Raila Odinga is the only person who gave up almost everything, just to secure the interests of Kenyans.

“I remember my father was always working, and I always wanted to wait for him," recounted Winnie.

Winnie mentioned that at one time, she was tired of seeing her father once in a while, and asked him why he always spent his time away from home.

It was then that Raila took her with him on a tractor to one rally, and she met the huge crowd her father always went to.

Winnie says that Raila told her that the huge crowd was not just her people, but her family, who deserved everything in this world to live a comfortable life.

“If you live a good life, then they must live better than you. If you think you deserve the best, they deserve better. If you walk around thinking you deserve the world, then you must give them the universe” Raila said to Winnie.

Winnie says that at this point, it made sense to her that her father is and will always be a soldier for the people of Kenya.

“If you want something, you have to defend it. No one will get it for you,” she remarked.

Notably, Winnie stated that she is so proud of her father, despite him not being with her all the time.

“I see this man wrestle, and I wonder, why can’t he just stay home with us? But I have realised we have to join the battle and go with him," explained Winnie.

You are the ones he spent 8 years in detention for, you are the ones he spent long nights out for, and you are the ones he shakes hands for. Join the battle by first registering as voters,” she stated.

Notably, she hilariously said that she will have her wedding in the State House in 2022. “Tell them that I said, Winnie Odinga will get married in 2022, in the lawns of the State house,” she concluded.
