One Kenya Alliance (OKA) on Thursday, October 14, ended hopes of teaming up with ODM party leader Raila Odinga ahead of the August 2022 General Elections.
OKA revealed that it would sign a coalition agreement that hinders them from joining any other political coalition amid speculation that they will merge with ODM.
Reports from Kimilili MP, Chris Wamalwa, a senior member of OKA's board, stated that their technical committee is working round the clock to have a coalition agreement signed by the six principals.
"The principals had the opportunity to look into the agreement, and they will soon sign it," Wamalwa stated.
Wamalwa added that the committee has also finalized the coalition's instrument, which seeks to bind the principals together to prevent them from teaming up with another outfit.
This comes after Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka vowed on Wednesday, October 13, never to back Raila Odinga's bid for the presidency again, stating that it is time for Odinga to rally behind his quest, having supported his bid in the last two consecutive General Elections.
Kalonzo also urged Raila to retire from politics, stating that he is the oldest among all other presidential candidates.
"Raila should go home alongside President Uhuru ahead of the 2022 General Elections. He is way older than other presidential candidates," he stated.
The Wiper leader noted that other political parties are willing to join them and promised a political storm in December this year. He also expressed his confidence that OKA was a serious challenger in the 2022 contest.
The OKA principals, alongside Raila Odinga, have previously attended several meetings with President Uhuru Kenyatta, a move termed as an attempt to unite them to join forces and form a bigger political outfit.
The efforts have proven futile with Odinga instead fast racking a coalition agreement with the ruling Jubilee Coalition.
Upon its signing, the agreement will bring together the six prominent political heavyweights, including Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Kanu's Gideon Moi, Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula and the veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo who recently joined the outfit.
