President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted that he might be compelled to extend dusk to dawn curfew after his visit to the Kenya Defence Forces.
Speaking during the 10th anniversary of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) day on Saturday, October 16, the Head of State joked that he might not lift the curfew after noticing an increase in newborns.
He noted that he was pleased by the development and that he wanted the country to grow in that trajectory.
"Vile nimeona leo hapa Kahawa, inaonekana hii curfew lazima iendelee. Watoto mumejaza hapa jameni, ni wengi. Wacha hii curfew iendelee. Tunataka Kenya iendelee kukuwa namna hiyo. Mungu awabariki wote.
(From what I have witnessed here in Kahawa, it seems like curfew must stay. The number of newborns in this area has increased. Let this curfew go on as we want Kenya's population to continue growing. God bless you all)," Uhuru joked cracking up the military audience.
He was speaking at the event which was held at the Kahawa Garrison base in Kasarani.
On October 4, the government extended the nationwide curfew for another 30 days to Thursday, November 4.
The Head of State has been adamant in enforcing the 10pm to 4am curfew directive since the onset of the pandemic.
During his address at Kahawa Garrison, the president also celebrated KDF officers and their families as heroes of peace and development.
He noted that he was planning to include them in the affordable housing project promising to commission a groundbreaking project before the year ends.
"We will celebrate them today and every day as heroes of peace and development because of their valour commitment to duty and sacrifice. Kenya is a nation made better, more secure, more peaceful and prosperous.
"I thank the families of the Defence forces for their unwavering support that they have given our troops to undertake their core mandate. To those that have lost dear ones... I assure you that their sacrifice was not in vain," he stated.
He also noted that health facilities were being upgraded in Nairobi, Isiolo and Eldoret to offering supportive health services to the officers and their dependants.
