The Kenyan athlete dedicated her win to fallen teammate Agnes Tirop who died on Wednesday, October 13. The 25-year-old athlete had set broken the women-only ten-kilometre road race record set in Germany in September 2020 and was an inspiration for many athletes.

For the men's race, Kenya's Bernard Koech managed to clinch a silver medal after Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola.

Further, in another race, Elisha Rotich also made history after smashing Kenenisa Bekele's record to win the 2021 Paris Marathon.

He clocked in at 2 hours 4 minutes and 18 seconds, beating the record set by Bekele in 2014 of 2 hours 5 minutes and 4 seconds.

Ethiopia's Hailelmaryam Kiros clinched second place in 2:04:42 while Kenya's Hillary Kipsambu came in third at 2:04:45

According to the World athletics organisation website, Tanui is ranked 330 overall while in the women's marathon category she is in 56th position.

Her previous personal best record was set at Xiamen Marathon on April 11, 2021, where she won gold after clocking in at 2 hours 20 minutes, and 8 seconds.

She has also participated in the Istanbul marathon, Vienna City Marathon, Roma-Ostia half marathon, Trento Half Marathon and Olomouc Half Marathon.
