A video of ODM leader Raila Odinga speaking on missing government analyst Mwenda Mbijiwe caused confusion among a section of Kenyans on Tuesday, October 19.

Odinga was speaking during an interview with Weru TV in Meru County, when he was asked to issue a statement on Mbijiwe's disappearance.

Odinga, who seemed to have misunderstood the question, spoke about the late Cabinet Minister Gilbert M'Mbijiwe Kabere, who died in 2017.

His statement left the audience confused with most thinking that he alleged Mwenda, who has been missing for six months, had died.

"Mzee Mbijiwe ndiye alikua rafiki yangu na kwa hivyo mimi niliskia vibaya sana alipoaaga na hio ni kitu kidogo kwa serekali. Nitaongea na Rais Uhuru ili aweze kusaidia.

"(Mzee Mbijiwe was a very good friend of mine and so I felt really bad when he passed on...I will talk to President Uhuru Kenyatta so that he can offer his help)."

Mwenda went missing under mysterious circumstances on Saturday, June 12.

Before his disappearance, the TV analyst was on his way to Meru County, to visit a sick relative.

A local businessman, Edward Mwangi, who had rented his car to Mbijiwe, unsuccessfully tried to contact him on the day he went missing.

Through the vehicle's tracking device, Mwangi affirmed that he traced the car to Kasarani on the morning of Friday, June 18.
