The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called off the highly anticipated match between Kenyan side Gor Mahia and Sudan's Al Ahly Merowe.

The CAF Confederation Cup first-round second leg between Gor Mahia and Sudan's Al-Ahly Merowe was set to take place at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, October 24 at 4pm .

"Reference the above-mentioned match, we would like to inform you that the Sudanese federation have communicated the withdrawal of the club Ahly Merowe from the competition," read the letter.

As a result, Gor Mahia has been handed a qualification ticket to the next round of the competition.

"Accordingly, we hereby inform you that the match is cancelled and that Gor Mahia has been qualified for the additional preliminary round of the competition. The host federation is kindly requested to proceed with the payment of all financial dues to the officials,” read the letter.

CAF has stated that a detailed decision will be communicated to all parties concerned in due course.

Gor had travelled to Egypt on October 15, where they faced Al-Ahly in the first leg fixture scooping a 3-1win against their opponents.

The game was played in Egypt, as the Sudanese club did not have any approved stadia back home.

Earlier on Friday, Gor Mahia had announced that up to 10,000 fans would be allowed to attend the CAF Confederation Cup match between them and Al-Ahly Merowe.

"Up to 10,000 fans would be allowed to watch our second leg of the Caf match against Al-Ahly set for Sunday at Nyayo Stadium after the ministry of health accepted the club's request and the federation also approved it,” Gor Mahia announced.

However, on Saturday, October 23 ,the Football federation Kenya (FKF) differed stating that the match would be played behind closed doors.
