Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo has weighed in on his wife, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru, officially joining the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Waiganjo, on Tuesday, October 26, told Kenyans.co.ke that he supports Waiguru’s decision to ditch President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee.

“I support her 110 per cent. That is her prerogative. Respect demands that I support her,” Waiganjo stated, adding that this was solely Waiguru’s decision, to which she had the right and freedom to make.

The city lawyer also refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that he would not support her nor the DP’s UDA party in the 2022 coming General Election.

A statement that went viral on Facebook claimed: “Due to ideological differences, I cannot join UDA leave alone supporting Ruto. In my family of seven, only HE Ann Waiguru (my wife) support Ruto. Joining Ruto' UDA was her personal decision, and not the position of our family..."

Waiganjo refuted the remarks in the above statement, which was also full of grammatical errors worth noting.

“Of course it's not true,” he responded. Waiganjo is a pro-Building Bridges Initiative and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ally.

His wife, Waiguru argued that Kirinyaga residents urged her to join UDA to secure her political future and career.

The Governor has numerously reiterated that she would seek re-election in 2022, rather than seek endorsement as a presidential running mate.

Political analysts, however, argued that Waiguru and her rival, former Justice Minister Martha Karua, were potential Deputy Presidents for aspirants in 2022.

Karua, like Waiguru, insisted that she would run against the latter in Kirinyaga. These two are expected to contest for the Governor’s seat against the county’s incumbent Woman Representative, Purity Ngirici.

Ngirici has not yet spoken on Waiguru joining UDA, but had previously hinted at ditching the Deputy President William Ruto-linked party if Waiguru would be endorsed for the county’s gubernatorial seat in 2022.
