Veteran politician Fred Gumo was just 15 minutes away from the crime scene where his sister-in-law and driver were abducted by unknown people on the night of Thursday, October 28.
Speaking to the media, Gumo explained that his 60-year-old sister-in-law and driver were using his SUV vehicle when the armed assailants ambushed them.
By the time the former Westlands MP was getting home, he found the vehicle abandoned in the driveway with the engine still running and the doors wide open.
He thought his driver was speaking to someone while in the vehicle but was informed of the unfortunate events that had just taken place.
Detectives from Gigiri Police Station, who visited the scene to process the vehicle, intimated that it was not a case of robbery as no valuables were stolen from the vehicle.
The veteran politician expressed concerns over the abduction, asking the police to move in speed and bring to book those behind it.
"If they were targeting me, why should they take them. I don't know what they want, I am not sure," stated Gumo.
Immediately after the two were abducted, their mobile phones were switched off.
Neither the police nor the family members have heard anything from the kidnappers.
The detectives immediately conducted forensic analysis and also dusted the vehicle for fingerprints.
“We were able to trace Gumo’s sister-in-law’s phone location to Muthaiga. That was the last clue the detectives had and are following the lead,” a senior police officer stated.
