Buruburu Girls administration has announced the reopening of the school days after a dormitory at the learning institution caught fire.
In a letter addressed to parents and dated Friday, November 5, the administration asked them to make sure they have cleared all fee arrears before sending the learners back to school.
Further, parents have been directed to pay Ksh1,500 each before students resume learning. The money will go towards covering the rebuilding of the dormitory that was consumed by the inferno.
Parents were further directed to inspect their kids and make sure they do not carry any sprays, perfumes, or sanitisers with them as the items will not be allowed in school.
The Buruburu Girls' administration further notified parents and guardians that no vehicle will be allowed in the school compound when they drop off their kids on the reporting day.
In addition, the students will not report at the same time. Forms Three and Four students were directed to report back to school on Monday, November 8, while Forms One and Two learners will be expected to report on Tuesday, November 9.
All students were directed to report at exactly 9:00am on the stated dates.
The school's Principal, Caroline Maina, in an interview with a local media house stated that investigations into the cause of the fire were still ongoing, adding that she had held a meeting with Form One and Two students on the fateful day.
Maina had invited guests to offer counselling services to the students in a session organised by the school.
The principal further advised concerned parents not to take their children away from school, assuring them that the institution was in a position to manage the situation.
"I’m appealing to parents to allow the school to handle the situation because of security reasons. Be sure we are in control of things. We have enough security in the school and we want to handle the situation internally," she stated.
At about 6pm on Sunday, October 31, videos circulating on social media showed students jumping from one of the dormitories. This raised concern among the public.
However, a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed what was happening within the school compound. In the video, teachers and students had set up mattresses at the base of the building meant to cushion the fall of some students.
