Former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker and Chief Administrative Secretary for Public Service and Gender, Beatrice Elachi, has warned Anne Kananu to brace herself for monumental challenges once she is sworn in as the Nairobi City County Governor.

Speaking on Citizen TV Tuesday, November 9, morning, the former Speaker warned Kananu that City Hall was already under the captivity of cartels who have made it difficult for elected or appointed leaders to execute their mandate.

Elachi noted that the cartels control almost all sectors of the City Hall, making it difficult for the Governor and other leaders to execute their mandate.

She, however, asked Kananu to listen to the people of Nairobi and act with their interests at heart.

"My dear sister, all I can tell you is, ask God for wisdom, ask God to help you," Elachi remarked in the interview.

She recounted that during her stint as Speaker, she was always at loggerheads with the former Governor, Mike Sonko, owing to their different schools of thoughts and priorities.

Elachi urged Kananu to keep her juniors closer so that the running of the City Hall will be smooth even as the country inches closer to the 2022 polls.

The CAS further noted that the cartels will want her to take part in wrong dealings at the County level and especially when it comes to procurement of goods and services.

"If you have a good team, you can collect revenue of Ksh50 billion to Ksh80 billion from the 85 wards in just one year, but then, you will need to embrace your team and work closely with them as your offices have already been captured by cartels."

Elachi's advise to Kananu comes just a day after the Supreme Court threw out a petition by ousted Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, who sought to block Kananu's swearing in as the Governor.

The Supreme Court cited the absence of the Court of Appeal judgment as one of the reasons the case was dropped as it did not meet the threshold stipulated by the Constitution.

The Supreme Court ruling, therefore, paves the way for swearing-in of Kananu to make her a substantive Governor.
