NARC-Kenya party leader, Martha Karua, on Monday, November 15, revealed that she still has political ambitions of becoming Kenya’s president.

Karua, who has in recent days disclosed that she turned down an appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2017 Elections, insisted that she would go for the country's top seat in the future.

In a radio interview, the Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant explained that she had unfinished business with the presidency having vied for the seat in 2013.

“I ran in 2013 and lost, but I still have unfinished business with the presidency, so God-willing one day I will serve in that capacity,” Karua stated.

In response to calls for her to go for the top seat in the 2022 General Election, Karua urged that her gubernatorial ambitions should not be belittled, insisting that any opportunity to serve the public was a huge task.

“I can serve Kirinyaga County the same way I believe I can serve nationally. There is no small position, serving Kirinyaga people is serving Kenyans."

“If given the opportunity, I can serve my fellow Kenyans both in Kirinyaga and nationally with all my heart and strength so that we can solve the problems facing them,” the gubernatorial aspirant stated.

In recent months, a section of leaders from the Mt Kenya Region have fronted Karua as a successor of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the region’s kingpin. This was after the Mount Kenya Unity Forum, a forum for political parties in the central region, elected her as an interim spokesperson.

Some of the leaders including Gatundu South Legislator, Moses Kuria have even publicly declared that Karua should be considered as a potential running mate for the 2022 presidential hopefuls.

However, the former Justice and Legal Affairs Minister in the Kibaki administration insisted that she will not focus on running mate debates, stating that she was focused on her gubernatorial ambitions.

"I have stated on several occasions that the seat of the Deputy President is not a seat for someone to vie. It is a seat where somebody has to please others with the expectation of being picked as the running mate a few months before elections,” Karua insisted.

"There is also a likelihood of being told that you are not the right candidate and you then have to wait for an appointment after the elections," Karua stated.

During the 2013 presidential elections, the NARC-Kenya party leader emerged sixth in the race, having garnered 43,881 votes.
