International media house, Al Jazeera, has apologised to President Uhuru Kenyatta after referring to him as President Jomo Kenyatta in one of its news articles.
In the article titled '‘Ethiopia conflict threat to wider regional security: Blinken", the media house mixed up the names of Uhuru and his late father.
In the apology, the media house explained that Jomo Kenyatta was Kenya's first President and the father to the current Head of State, Uhuru.
“A previous version of this story referred to Jomo Kenyatta as Kenya’s incumbent President. That was incorrect. The current President of Kenya is Uhuru Kenyatta, son of the late Jomo Kenyatta, who was Kenya’s first President,” the correction reads.
The media house was following up on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Sub Sahara Africa.
Blinken jetted into Kenya on Tuesday night and is expected to visit Nigeria and Senegal in the five-day trip.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, November 18, Blinken advocated for a free and fair election come 2022, noting it would be an opportunity for Kenya to serve as a model for countries around the world.
"The US stands ready to support in any way we can," Blinken stated.
In addition, Blinken stated that the US was committed to deepening the economic relationship with Kenya across the board, giving an example of trade or investment.
"We have about a billion dollars in annual trade between our countries. Our Trade Administrator, Katherine Tai, continues to be in active discussions with her Kenyan counterparts on how to strengthen the trade relationship even more," he added.
