For a majority of Kenyans, getting a job is usually the first of a thousand steps to getting to a position of financial independence. With a soft life in mind, the goal is to make the most  money in the shortest time possible.

However, as they get through employment, some of them begin to seek yet another type of independence-self employment. But quitting a job and setting off on a journey to become one's own boss requires more than just passion and a dream.

Such is the story of Angela Omwoha, the event planner who planned, designed, organized and saw the success of Deputy President William Ruto's daughter, June Ruto's wedding.

Speaking during an interview on Saturday, November 20, Omwoha revealed that her journey to become one of Kenya's most sought-after events planner began when she was an employee seated behind a desk.

"I was a banker before hand but I decided to try this out. I am content, I am happy," she stated.

Now the owner of Angelic Touch Events, the former banker does decor for luxury events. She also doubles as an event manager and has been in the industry for close to six years.

Angela has handled  high profile events, including June's, on May 27, which she described as one of the best events she has done this year.

"I liked how everything went. The client was very cooperative, very calm. For me it was a good one," she stated.

She also shared her secret of making it in a crowded event planning industry.

"I just focus on what I do. I focus on how I want it (event) to look, and I listen to the client," she revealed.

The decor maestro also revealed that she tries to remain original in her work and meet the needs of the client. She also stated that she is a hands-on person and worked on developing a network within the industry.

Nonetheless, she has faced challenges in her work. At one point, when handling a wedding in Juba, South Sudan, 3,000 guests showed up for a 700 invite-only wedding.

Omwoha  and her team dealt with the crises by ensuring that the bride's wishes were still implemented while handling the extra number of guests.
