Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi , has called for witness protection for former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko for exposing a high court judge.

This comes days the former county chief leaked footage allegedly exposing a judge for receiving money to rule in favour of various parties.

Speaking through his social media account, the vocal lawyer stated that Sonko should be accorded General Service Unit (GSU) protection for leaking footage where the judge was heard asking Kshs100 million to compromise a case he was presiding over.

"I watched all the Sonko Leaks and they just confirmed the cries of lawyers about runaway corruption in our courts. This is the biggest scandal in our courts," the prominent lawyer remarked.

"The false sense of normalcy in our courts and the false posture of business as usual has been chattered by the Sonko Leaks. The Judicial Service of Kenya has shown that its sleeps on the job and is master in cover up," he further stated.

He called out Chief Justice Martha Koome for failure to flush out judges with questionable character, and failure to let Kenyans know what she will do about the looming graft in the courts.

The renowned lawyer accused CJ Koome of following in the former Chief Justice David Maraga's footsteps by declining to address graft within the judiciary.

"The Sonko Leaks show that the courts are the epicenter of corruption and we are paying the price of the legacy of CJ Maraga who refused to address corruption in courts," he lamented in his statement.

The city lawyer gave an account of how he blew the whistle on how a judge of the Supreme Court received a Kshs220 million bribe and the judiciary was hesitant on investigating the matter.

This comes after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) on Wednesday, November 17, threatened to petition for the removal of the said judge, and gave JSC 14 days to take action, failure to which they would make good of their threat.

CJ Koome on Thursday ,November 18, in response noted she had seen the videos shared on social media and the reports by a section of the media and that she was ready to take action.

She stated that she will be meeting with the JSC and they will discuss the matter before giving the next course of action.
