“We will also set up a photo gallery of Nairobi National Park since gazettement with archived and recent photos to take our guests down memory lane,” Balala stated.

The event will celebrate some of the milestones that the Ministry has achieved for the last seven decades since the park was gazetted in 1946.

The CS observed that the park had withstood a number of socioeconomic and ecological pressures to preserve its biodiversity integrity.

“The park’s location next to a fast-growing capital city has brought unique challenges. The government is well aware of these challenges and is committed to tackling them as humanely as possible,” he stated.

Though the Kenya Wildlife Service Director General John Waweru reiterated that the park had witnessed a number of challenges, he stated there had been a remarkable surge in local tourism.

“We are continuously exploring new ways to attract tourists as well as partners, through innovative campaigns such the current Zuru and KWS,” he stated.

Others who were present during the media briefing include; PS Wildlife, Prof. Segor, KWS Director General John Waweru and other officials.

The Nairobi National Park is the oldest national park in Kenya and the only capital city national park in the world.
