Chaos rocked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja National Convention in Kasarani, Nairobi, on Friday, December 10, after a section of attendees turned rowdy.

The altercation was first reported at the VIP entrance after a section of political leaders were denied access as they did not hold the required entry passes. The confrontation quickly escalated to a confrontation.

Reports intimated that supporters of some of the politicians had demanded to use the VIP entrance and the venue security detail was forced to intervene and keep them outside. However, some of those blocked turned rowdy removing the already erected barricades that were meant to control human movements.

After the scenes turned chaotic, some rogue individuals who masqueraded as supporters of the ODM leader and his Azimio La Umoja agenda took advantage of the situation and attempted to steal valuables from attendees during the commotion.

Entertainers, who had camped at the VIP entrance and who had aligned themselves to usher in guests, were forced to cut short their performance after the chaos broke out.

Cases of pickpocketing were also reported with police officers being forced to move in and pacify the situation.

The law enforcement officers caught one of the suspected thieves with four mobile phones he could not explain ownership. He was cuffed and escorted to the nearby Kasarani Police Station for interrogation.

Maragua Member of Parliament, Mary Wamaua, was caught up in the melee and forced to leave the Kasarani Stadium after she was allegedly roughed up by security men in plain clothes at the gate.

The lawmaker said she was stunned over the hostile reception as she accused the security guards and other officers of shoving her repeatedly.

The MP was spotted engaging in a verbal altercation with the security officials, in a video that is doing rounds on social media.

Wamaua protested the manner in which she was treated, shouting at the officers and asking them to handle people with courtesy and dignity.

"I am an elected Member of Parliament, but you are pushing me like a bag of potatoes," she protested.
